With the 2008 Beijing Olympics now over, it is time to look at how our beloved African countries did! The Africans have shown a very good start at the Beijing Olympics so far with Algerian Soraya Haddad winning a bronze medal for the women’s judo game. Kirsty Coventry also grabbed a silver medal for Zimbabwe at the women’s 400 metres individual medley and there she displayed tremendous talent after being the first person to win a medal for the continent and also to win a medal of any colour on the third day of the Olympics. Often when there is a war in Africa, it is always the civilians that get hurt the most. This was the case in Somalia’s ghost town- Mogadishu, which is the capital city. A deadly bomb that was hidden under a pile of rubbish tore this southern part of the town into pieces while killing at least 20 people 10 of who were female street-cleaners.
